From Your Blessed Face, Unveil Your Covering, O’ Messenger of Allah

From Your Blessed Face, Unveil Your Covering, O’ Messenger of Allah

A beautiful and moving poem in seeking divine love for the Prophet of Allah

The poem was rendered into a ghazal back in 1981 (click below to listen), by the husband and wife duo Jagjit and Chitra Singh who came to be respectfully known as “King and Queen of the Ghazal world”. Trained by Ustad Jamal Kahn, Jagjit Singh was the first musician to set Urdu poetry to the accompaniment of a full orchestra. They created some of the most successful Indian ghazals of the 1970s and ’80s.

Zara Chehre Se Kamli Ko Hata Do Ya Rasullah - Jagjit Singh, Chitra Singh

From your blessed face, unveil your covering, O’ Messenger of Allah

Make me also, mad (in your love), O’ Messenger of Allah

Release me from the love of others, O’ Messenger of Allah

Awaken my sleepy fortune, O’ Messenger of Allah

From your blessed face, unveil your covering, O’ Messenger of Allah

Great is our fortune (we are blessed), to be in your nation

Our reliance (for success) in deen (ie Islam) and in the world

Our reliance (for success) in deen (Islam) and in the world, is on you, O’ Messenger of Allah

From your blessed face, unveil your covering, O’ Messenger of Allah

(When) In the dark grave, they will leave me, left alone

(I plead) In there, with your grace

(I plead) In there, with your grace, may be it enlightened,  O’ Messenger of Allah

From your blessed face, unveil your covering, O’ Messenger of Allah

May God make me arrive in Madina (city of the Prophet) – it would be blessed

That, at his blessed presence (his final resting place in Masjid-e-Nabawi), I surrender and give my life

That, in your blessed presence (his final resting place in Masjid-e-Nabawi), I surrender and give my life, O’ Messenger of Allah

From your blessed face, unveil your covering, O’ Messenger of Allah

Make me also, mad (in your love), O’ Messenger of Allah

From your blessed face, unveil your covering, O’ Messenger of Allah
